Police were called to a property in Dingwall after a smoke alarm was heard and there was concern for the 18 year old's welfare.

But Inverness Sheriff Court heard that when officers roused Blythe Buchan at his then home in Forestry Commission House, Dingwall in the early morning of June 28 this year, they saw herbal cannabis inside.

Fiscal depute David Morton told Sheriff Ian Cruickshank: "The cannabis was worth about £30. When the accused was told he would be dealt with, he began struggling with officers and acting in an aggressive manner. He was restrained and arrested."

Buchan pleaded guilty to possession of the drug; resisting arrest and threatening behaviour.

Defence solicitor John MacColl said: "He had used the cooker to light his reefer and this caused a fair bit of smoke."

Buchan was fined £520.
