Dingwall Pefferside Park Pond revamp - public asked to have say on vision
PLANS to enhance a landmark feature in the heart of Ross-shire’s county town are being put to members of the public.
Draft proposals to enhance the Pefferside Park Pond are to be shared with Dingwall residents as part of an initiative which could provide a wonderful 800th ‘birthday’ boost for the county town.
A drop-in session next week and an online questionnaire will give local people a chance to give their thoughts on the plans for the landmark feature.

Nature Restoration Fund money from the Scottish Government has provided an opportunity to enhance the wildlife value of the pond and link with the wider River Peffery catchment restoration; a project being led by local firm Lockett Agri-Environ-mental. The pond restoration also offers the potential to provide an educational resource for local people on climate, natural flood management and biodiversity as well as a community greenspace rich in wildlife.
Design features include the removal of most of the concrete edge combined with reprofiling to create shallow, vegetated edges around the pond’s circumference.
Shallow edges are optimum for wildlife but also have the added benefit of enhanced access for activities such as pond dipping.
The final agreed design will be constructed in late summer 2025. Dingwall’s 800th birthday in 2026 presents a fantastic opportunity to integrate the town’s Viking heritage through sculptures and structures in and around the restored pond.
The consultation event will be held at the Dingwall Community Centre on Monday, february 3 from 4-8pm.
Representatives from Lockett Agri-Environmental and the Dingwall Community Development Company (DCDC) will be on-hand to discuss the ideas, as well as some of the initial plans for Dingwall’s 800 th birthday celebration.
There is information about the restoration proposals on the DCDC web-site at https://dingwall.scot/pro-jects/pefferside-park
The web page also includes a link to the questionnaire which it is hoped people will contribute to.
