Dingwall charity shop celebrates 40th anniversary
A DINGWALL volunteer-run charity shop, that has donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to worthy causes over the years, has celebrated it’s 40th birthday.
On July 19, the volunteers behind Bits and Pieces charity shop on Dingwall’s High Street came together to celebrate the milestone anniversary.
One of the shop’s founders, Kathleen Sim, was awarded a British Empire Medal for her involvement in the shop in the late Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2022.
The shop has donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to Crossroads, until they closed in 2015, and to Highland Hospice.
Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty Joanie Whiteford, who attended the event, said: “Bits and Pieces is the only charity shop in Dingwall that is entirely run by volunteers, and they do a wonderful job. Even as the anniversary event took place, bags of donations were being dropped in.”
As well as the lord lieutenant, the head of income and development at Highland Hospice Andrew Leaver also attended the celebration.
Highland Hospice said: “We celebrated with our volunteers at Bits and Pieces today! 40 years of this fantastic, volunteer run charity shop. A true Dingwall institution and a tremendous support for Highland Hospice. Thank you Kathleen Sim and Maggie Davidson for setting the shop up back in 1985, and to all the volunteers past and present for their amazing hard work and dedication.”
