A ROSS-SHIRE railway station is ringing the changes with a quirky revamp that's sure to turn the eyes of passengers.

In the spirit of the Commonwealth Games, which are being hosted in Glasgow this year, fun, sport-inspired signage has sprung up at Dingwall Ralway Station.

To celebrate the largest sporting event Scotland has ever hosted, First ScotRail has renamed the station 'Ding!Ding!Wall' in honour of Team Scotland’s boxers.

ScotRail is an Official Supporter of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and Team Scotland.

Ewan Thomson, Dingwall station team manager, said: “Excitement is building for the Games and we’re proud to be playing our part in helping the local community feel part of it.

"Hosting the Games is a once in a generation opportunity so hopefully our new, fun signs add to the experience and memories people have of Glasgow 2014.”

A plaque under the eye-catching sign explains how, at the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Scottish boxer Dick McTaggart MBE punched his way to a gold medal in the lightweight category. It adds: "As the third youngest of 18 children, Dick must have been used to fighting his corner."

The sign made its appearance on the day the county town welcomed the Queen's Baton relay as part of the build-up to the big event.

Dingwall is not the only ScotRail station to be getting a special Games-time identity change.

The other stations to be renamed after of some of the Games’ 17 sports are: Cambuslang(jump), Falkirk Higher(er), Longniddry (Longerniddry), Musselburgh (Muscleburgh), Polmont (Polevault) and Springburn (Sprintburn).
