A DIAMOND duo from Dingwall who met as children have revealed the secret of a long and happy marriage on their 60th wedding anniversary.

Munro (85) and Anita (81) Gabriel, both originally from Dingwall, have been best friends since they were teenagers.

Anita (nee Macdonald) remembers watching him flying model planes on the school playing fields in Dingwall. They were married on June 17, 1961 at the Church of Scotland in Dingwall.

Munro joined the Inverness Savings Bank on leaving school, and apart from a short break to do his National Service, remained with the institution, which became the TSB, for over 40 years, until his retirement.

During his time with the bank he served in Dingwall, Inverness, Tain, Invergordon and Inverurie and was for many years an active rotarian.

Anita was an accounts clerkess with the Hydro Board in Dingwall and then worked in the telephone exchange in Tain.

They have three grown up children, Morven, Alison and Glenn, who all live nearby, and nine much-loved grandchildren.

Anita is an avid knitter who has made hundreds of items for the Neonatal Unit in Aberdeen.

They plan a garden party once the restrictions have eased further.

Their secret to a long and happy marriage? Celebrating the good times, which there have been so many of; weathering the difficult times with a positive attitude and never forgetting that they have been best friends since an early age and still are today.
