Police Scotland officers in the Highlands appeal for information after assault outside Tesco supermarket in Tain, Easter Ross

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a man was arrested and charged in connection with a daytime assault outside a Ross-shire supermarket.

The assault took place outside the Tesco store in Shore Road, Tain, at 1.30pm on Thursday.

"A male has been charged in connection with this incident and is to appear at court at a later date," said a spokesman for the force. "A/Sgt Smith would like to thank Tesco staff and members of the public for their assistance in the quick apprehension of this male. Police would like to reassure members of the public that incidents like this are not a regular occurrence in Tain.

"Enquiries are still ongoing into this incident and police would appeal for anyone with further information, to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting NE/3837/20, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
