AFTERNOON tea and tunes will be on the menu at a fundraising event for an ambitious project to develop Scotland’s first integrated centre for young people with learning disabilities and complex needs in the Highlands.

The event for the Haven Appeal will be held at the Beaufort Hotel in Culduthel Road, Inverness, on November 20.

The line-up will include the Elizabeth Fraser Highland Dancers who have raised thousands of pounds, over time, towards the appeal.

A dance show they staged recently at Merkinch Community Centre raised another £510.

Rona Matheson, community fundraiser for the appeal, said the dancers had been faithful supporters.

“This was a fantastic Highland dance show, and once again to Elizabeth and her dancers, we wish to express our grateful thanks,” she said.

Mrs Fraser said they were delighted to have a live audience.

She thanked all the parents and families who attended and supported the show.

“We were able to give some of my youngest pupils the opportunity to perform for the very first time on a stage with an audience and to do this to help the Haven Appeal was wonderful,” she said.

“The young dancers performed brilliantly, showcasing a beautiful variety of talent including Grace McPhee who danced her choreography piece that won her third place at the Mòd this year in Inverness.”

They will be in action at the fundraising afternoon tea and tunes.

It will also include musical performers from BBC Alba, the Gaelic School Choir, Roya MacLennan and fiddler Mairi Mackinnon.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 2pm, cost £20 and are available from Eventbrite or havenappeal.org.uk

The Haven Centre will be built at a derelict site in Murray Road, Smithton, and has been driven by the Elsie Normington Foundation.

It will include respite flats, indoor and outdoor play areas, childcare facilities and a community café.
