A BLACK Isle group’s vision of creating a village hub that will help bring people together has taken another massive step forward.

Culbokie Community Trust voiced delight at receiving full planning consent for Culbokie Green and the Village Hub.

It said: “We’ve worked really hard with our partners to integrate the design with the existing character and layout of the village including Culbokie Store, the new Tulloch Homes development and the proposed Sustrans active travel route.

“Culbokie Green will provide a new focal point for a range of outdoor activities – with native trees and wildflower meadows, paths and seating, a gathering space and shelter, a community orchard, a natural play space, family games and a herb garden.

“The community buildings will complete the village heart and are designed to reflect the traditional agricultural buildings in the area. They’ll house a café, potting shed and toilets for community use along with parking and a courtyard.”

The designs were drawn up with by Ldn Architects and Horner and Maclennan Landscape Architects working with CCT and the wider community. That included community consultation and presentations.

CCT said: “We hope you like the plan!”

Last month it concluded the sale of 0.21 hectares of land to Cairn Housing Association for development of six houses for affordable rent at the village’s Glasscairn site. The community trust says the proceeds of the land sale will go a long way to facilitate the development of its plans for the Culbokie Green and Village Hub development on the same site.

The hub is planned to include a new flexible space community café, volunteer base and public toilets as well as car and bike parking and an EV charge point.

Homes plan agreed after three-way deal
