PUPILS at Cromarty Primary School have created a CD as part of their fundraising efforts in the MFR cash for schools challenge.

A lucrative prize of £5000 goes to the winning school and the youngsters have teamed up with local singer and music student Rua Nicole, a third year student in Applied Music at the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Her daughter Skye (6) is a pupil at the school. Ms Nicole, a winner of the Fox factor competition run by Johhny Foxes bar, used the template of one of her own songs to which the children added their own lyrics for the CD recorded at the North Highland College.

Ms Nicole said: "The children were great and loved the whole process of making their own CD which is called 'Cromarty is Free'. They even provided the music with guitars, fiddles, a drummer, cellist and piano. The lyrics which the children wrote are all about their community and environment as seen from their perspective."

The youngsters gave a live performance of the song at Cromarty Community Market in Victoria Hall.

They have their own Facebook page and the radio station has said it may play the song.

Added Ms Nicole: "They are very excited about that. It's huge for them."
