THE rebuilding of an Easter Ross school destroyed by fire and a push for suitable housing to keep pace with demand generated by the Cromarty Firth freeport are amongst the pledges of a 20-year-old seeking election to Highland Council.

Ross-shire native Innes Munro has set his sights on one of the two seats being vacated in the Cromarty Firth ward.

A by-election has been triggered by the resignation of Pauline Munro and Liberal Democrat Molly Nolan.

Munro was today unveiled as a Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party candidate.

He was described by supporters as “a driven and passionate” lifelong resident and worker in the Highlands.

Munro’s campaign, grounded in his ‘4 for the Firth’ pledges, “highlights his dedication to addressing key issues that matter most to Cromarty Firth locals”. The pledges are:

Make sure that community voice is at the centre of all new energy infrastructure.

Press for £12m of adult social care cuts to be re-instated.

Ensure plans for housing are in place to support local people and green freeport jobs.

Push the Highland Council to accelerate progress on rebuilding Park Primary School.

He said: “I am absolutely passionate about making sure that the people of this ward have their voices heard in every decision that affects our community. From our energy infrastructure to social care, housing, and education, I am committed to fighting alongside our residents on their needs and priorities, both here in the ward and so too in the Highland Council debating chamber.”

Edward Mountain MSP for the Highlands and Islands stated: “I have worked with Innes for nearly two years and know that he is a hardworking and diligent individual which is why I am proud to be supporting his campaign to become councillor for this ward. There is no better person.”

Struan Mackie, former Scottish Conservative Group Leader and Councillor for Thurso and Northwest Caithness Ward, said: “Innes has a clear plan for the Cromarty Firth ward and I look forward to supporting his election campaign.

“The Highland Council desperately needs local champions who understand the real issues. The Cromarty Firth ward needs representatives who will stand up and be counted in Inverness. I have been impressed with Innes' vision for the area, I think he will make a great local councillor.”

Munro has pledged to outline his vision and specific plans to enhance the quality of life for all residents in the ward as the campaign unfolds.
