A YOUNG baker from the Black Isle is bringing his treats to the community in a bid to up his cooking game.

Alistair Fox (13), from Cromarty, has placed an honesty box in the village’s Church Street where he will sell his baked goods every weekend, starting from last Sunday.

The teen, who has been baking since he was as young as three, said the proceeds will go to buy equipment and ingredients for future baking, as well as saving money for his future career.

He sad: “I decided to put up the honesty box after I saw someone in Orkney doing something similar and I thought I could give it a go. I will do the baking on the Saturday and everything will be put in the honesty box on the Sunday.

“I will use the money for ingredients, equipment and to save up for my future education. I grew up watching my mum baking and I started very early to bake together with her. My dad is also baking and cooking for Sutor Creek, so he is a big inspiration for me.

“I really enjoy baking cakes, but my favourite thing to do probably is French patisserie.”

For his first weekend Alistair baked festive brownies, candy cane cupcakes and snowmen marshmallows.

The teen said that although he sees his future in engineering, baking is a great passion and he tried to enter the popular Bake Off competition in the past – places were all taken then but he aims to try again in the future.

Hand sanitiser is available before opening the cake box door and all items are wrapped individually.
