THIRTEEN new positive tests for Covid-19 have been detected across the NHS Highland area.

The region's cumulative number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 1241 to 1254 when the latest daily update was published at 2pm.

There were 1357 positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours.

Some 1228 people were receiving treatment in hospital last night for Covid-19 – up 21 from the previous day.

Of those, 96 people were in intensive care, a fall of two since yesterday.

But sadly a further 56 people who were diagnosed with the coronavirus have since died.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were two new infections in NHS Eileanan Siar, which increased from 72 to 74. NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland's totals remained unchanged overnight.

NHS Grampian reported a further 50 positive tests, for a cumulative total of 3810.

And NHS Tayside's overall total increased by 101 to 4911. The three-figure rise followed the move this week to place Perth & Kinross and Angus into the higher Tier 3 pandemic level.

Scotland has now detected 79,017 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
