A further 140 positive tests for Covid-19 coronavirus across NHS Highland area

ANOTHER 140 people have tested positive for Covid-19 across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 6518 to 6658 when the latest daily figures were released on Thursday.

Scotland posted another new daily record for the number of positive tests. Some 4234 confirmed cases were recorded in the past 24 hours – or 10.5 per cent of all tests conducted during that period.

Scottish hospitals were treated 275 people for the virus last night – up 40 since Wednesday’s update.

Of those, 16 were in intensive care, which was down by three.

Sadly six further people have died after previously testing positive for the virus in the past 28 days,

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new positive tests in NHS Shetland or NHS Eileanan Siar, but NHS Orkney’s cumulative number of cases increased by one, to 93.

Another 263 people have tested positive in the NHS Grampian area, for a rolling total of 18,313.

And in NHS Tayside, the overall tally rose by 559 and now stands at 20,830.

There have been 285,456 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.

Almost 3.82 million people in Scotland have now received their first vaccination shot, while more than 2.72 million have had their second jag.
