Dingwall chip shop meltdown; Conon Bridge stand-off and county town drugs dealer watched by police

IT was a busy week for cases from Ross-shire in the courts.

An ex-prisoner who had just been freed from spending 15 months on remand awaiting trial attacked a chip shop assistant when he was refused cheese sauce with his purchase because he didn't have enough money.

But 41-year-old Charles MacLennan, of Mart Road, Dingwall, became violent when he heard someone in Renato's premises on the town's High Street call him "a beast", despite him being acquitted on Friday by a jury of alleged serious offences.

POLICE were involved in a 95-minute stand-off after a 35-year-old man they were seeking climbed onto the roof of a Conon Bridge house and began throwing items at the officers.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that officers were carrying out a welfare check on drug addict Jason Cochrane on the evening of October 5 last year when they saw him crawling about the floor as if trying to hide.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that he wouldn’t let officers into the Windsor Place property and climbed on to the roof where he ripped pieces off and threw them towards the police.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Kyle Kirkham had been dealing drugs for almost two years after being recruited by an organised crime gang to sell illegal narcotics in the Highlands.

And when police raided the 27-year-old's sister's home in Millbank Road, Dingwall, acting on intelligence, they discovered almost £6000 he had given to her.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald was told that she refused to divulge the identity of the person who gave her the money. However officers discovered that it was her brother and that he had been dealing for over two years.

Kirkham, of Fingal Road, Dingwall was traced and kept under surveillance and when they saw him going to a secluded area near Cambrai Court, they recovered 35.21 grams of cocaine.
