An offshore worker who came to Inverness for a short break with his partner was arrested for abusive behaviour towards her in a city centre hotel.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Peter Ireland (50), of Greenhead Avenue, Stevenston in Ayrshire, admitted behaving in a threatening manner by shouting and swearing at his partner in the Royal Highland Hotel on June 21.

The court heard that the pair had been out socialising earlier in the day but had returned to the hotel separately after an argument.

Fiscal depute David Morton said: “The argument continued on his return at reception and his partner was crying.”

Defence solicitor Graham Mann said: “Drink had been taken.

“The following day they left and stayed in a couple of other places with nothing untoward.”

Ireland was ordered to pay a fine of £420.
