Ullapool derelict Costcutter shop's end of lease sparks new hopes for property's future
The end of a lease for an Ullapool building which has been empty and derelict for over 10 years has sparked new hopes for the future of the property.
The old Costcutters building on West Argyle Street in Ullapool closed over a decade ago and has been empty and derelict ever since.
The property's lease came to an end last month raising hopes of a fresh start.
In January, the realisation that the property had been closed for over 10 years sparked a strong debate in the area, with many sharing ideas of community buyouts or of a local business taking it over. With the barrier of a lease that would be active until September, these ideas were put on hold until then – but now that the lease has ended, these ideas may become possible for the Wester Ross village.
Chair of Lochbroom Community Council Topher Dawson said: "It would be great if the owners of the Costcutters building were a bit more active in either selling the building, or getting a new tenant for the building."
Shepherd, the estate agents for the building have been contacted for comment.
