CELEBRATIONS will mark the launch of a colourful family-friendly history book that explores the rich tale of Fortrose Cathedral.
Ninety minutes of community activities will accompany the launch of Highland Cathedral on Sunday. Fortrose was one of only 13 mediaeval cathedrals in Scotland and was an important religious centre that routinely welcomed royalty.
And now author Elizabeth Sutherland has written a book recounting its tale – all lovingly illustrated by artist Rachel Bevan Baker.
“A unique book about a unique building, demands a very special launch,” said Mike Marshall of Black Isle Books, which is publishing the work. “To make it a memorable community event, we’re providing music and refreshments, absolutely free, in the cathedral grounds.”
The event runs from 2.30pm to 4pm, and will feature performances from the choirs Jubilate and Union Street. Pipers, Highland dancing and a music by Strathpeffer harpist Cheyenne Brown are also planned.
Signed copies of the book will also be available for a reduced price of £10, with book profits going to Fortrose & Rosemarkie Community Council for local projects.
Meanwhile, Mr Marshall added that there are hopes to recruit volunteers to open the cathedral’s Chapter House to the public on a regular basis. If interested, email him at mnm982@gmail.com
