STARTING a new business at one of the most uncertain periods in living memory isn't for the faint-hearted.
Taking the leap of faith in the heart of Ross-shire's county town at the weekend were business partners Ruth Cole (25) and Jordan Milliken (31).
The dynamic duo made the most of time to ponder their plans during the pandemic and emerged from lockdown with a steely determination to make a go of it on Dingwall's High Street.
Mr Milliken, a Canadian who moved to Scotland three years ago when his partner took a job as a lawyer in the Highland capital, has a passion for speciality coffee while Ms Cole is a vegan baker known for her bread, celebration cakes and pastries.
The unusual name of the enterprise – located in the former long-established June's Card Shop premises – comes from a documentary from the 1970s about outlaw country singers called Heartworn Highways. Mr Milliken explained: "I listened to the soundtrack endlessly over lockdown. Heartbreak and black coffee go so well together and the name just stuck with me."
He said it has been "an amazing" first day and thanked everyone for their support.
