Motorists travelling on the A9 should expect disruption and delays caused by a road traffic accident on the Dornoch Bridge which has led to the complete closure of the bridge.

The accident, which occurred around 1.20pm, has caused partial restrictions on the southbound lane at first, with the complete closure confirmed at 1.35pm.

Traffic Scotland warned that drivers are advised to exercise caution on approach and should be aware of delays to journey times.

It's understood the driver of the lorry was injured. The extent of the injuries is unknown.

Fire crews from Dornoch, Bonar Bridge, Tain and Inverness attended the scene. A heavy rescue unit from Inverness was also sent to the scene.

The expected duration of the closure is currently unknown.

Motorists were previously warned to drive carefully on the Bridge due to high winds that are expected to affect the area until tomorrow morning.
