A Church of Scotland minister is set to leave his post in Invergordon.

It’s understood the situation came about after a breakdown in working relationships with some of the elders in the congregation.

Rev Brian Macleod took up the post at Invergordon Church of Scotland in spring 2022.

However, it now seems that due to some tensions he has made the difficult decision to vacate the post.

A Church of Scotland spokesman said: “This is a sad situation which requires careful handling. The local Presbytery, Clèir Eilean Ì, the Church of Scotland in the Highlands and Hebrides, is engaging with all parties to provide appropriate pastoral care and spiritual support, in order to secure a just and constructive outcome and learn helpful lessons for the future.”

Social media comments have been very supportive of Rev Brian with many saying he will be a big loss to the community after being instrumental in setting up groups and encouraging others.

Rev Macleod was born and bred in Stornoway. He previously used to work for Crossreach alongside adults with additional support needs, a job which he said he enjoyed immensely.

Brian studied theology at New College in Edinburgh and had the opportunity to visit Israel and various Reformation sites in Germany and the Czech Republic.

He spent his probationary period back in Stornoway at Martin’s Memorial Church, the church which had helped shape him so much as a teenager, under the mentorship of minister Rev Tommy MacNeil. Following his probation he continued at Martin’s Memorial Church as assistant minister, his induction taking place in June 2021.

Brian and his wife Talita, who is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and their two daughters, Esther and Lydia, moved to the area to become part of the community when Brian took up his first charge as Minister at Invergordon.
