AN Easter Ross group unable to hold its Christmas Tree Festival this year has found a novel solution to spread a bit of festive cheer.

Tain Gardeners' Club has run the festive event over several years, raising money for good causes in the process.

This year, as part of the Tain Gala Advent Calendar initiative, it has put a tree in the window of the former Emporium.

The club paid tribute to Sandy Mackenzie and David Urquhart for their help in setting this up.

Tain Gala Association has organised a "Shop Advent Calendar" to light the way towards the big day.

A number of businesses in the Royal Burgh have got involved taking turns lighting up as the countdown continues.

Locals are invited to take part in a scavenger hunt by walking around town to find all the relevant numbers in shop windows.

Findings can be sent to the gala association which will pick a winner at random on January 1.

It said: "Look out through the High Street all the way down to the St Duthus Hotel including shops on the side streets to see their windows display for the Advent Calendar to celebrate the countdown to Christmas."
