Tain and District Development Trust cancels Christmas street market in wake of recent Covid-19 cases in Easter Ross

PLANS for a Christmas street market in a Ross town have been cancelled following recent Covid-19 cases in the area.
Tain and District Development Trust has confirmed that its festive market, which had been earmarked for Saturday, November 28, has been shelved.
The move comes after recent clusters of coronavirus in the wider area, with NHS Highland confirming yesterday that more than 40 cases had been detected in Easter Ross in the past fortnight.
Some of those cases are understood to have been in the Tain area.
And the trust decided to cancel the imminent street market in order to protect the health and safety of the public.
Confirming the cancellation on its Facebook page, the trust said: "With the health and safety of the local community uppermost in our minds, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Christmas Community Street Market, due to take place on Saturday, November 28.
"Our Community Market will be back in 2021 but until then please keep supporting local businesses and shop local.
"We have a little socially distanced festive cheer up our sleeve for December so keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates!"

Meanwhile, NHS Highland's director of public health, has issued a general plea to the public to stick to social distancing safety rules.
Speaking in response to the recent Easter Ross cases, Dr Tim Allison, said: “Everyone should continue to adhere to physical distancing guidelines, wear a face-covering when in enclosed spaces, clean your hands and surfaces regularly and immediately self-isolate if you develop symptoms. It is vital that families continue to adhere to the guidance and should not be meeting other households indoors.
"Anyone that is unwell should isolate immediately and must not attend school or work. Those with symptoms of Covid-19 should be tested.
"You can book a test for yourself, someone you care for, or a child in your care but you only need to book a test if you have symptoms or you have been explicitly asked to get a test by our public health team."
A test can be booked by calling 0800 028 2816 or visiting the NHS Inform website. You do not need to call NHS 24 to organise a test.
