Christmas Eve power cut hits almost 1000 homes in Sutherland and Ross-shire, says Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN)
A Christmas Eve power cut was affecting well over 1000 people across Sutherland and Wester Ross this afternoon.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) reported an outage at 12.30pm that was impacting almost 900 homes in communities dotted across Coigach, Assynt and as far east as Lairg.
In total some 44 separate post codes and almost 900 homes and businesses were affected by the power cut.
Lochinver, Achmelvich, Drumbeg, Inverkirkaig and Achnahaird were just some of the communities with affected homes.
The outage was the second in the west coast on Christmas Eve, following another power cut which impacted hundreds of residents living in the area around Loch Ewe in Wester Ross.
An SSEN spokesperson said: "We're aware of a power cut affecting 874 homes. The unplanned fault is affecting a large area, and its likely several streets in your area are affected by the same power cut.
"The cause of the power cut is a fault on our overhead network."
At the time of writing, SSEN said it hoped to restore power by 6pm, although this is subject to repairs proceeding as planned.
