A SUPERMARKET chain with a presence in Ross-shire is set to toast St Andrew's Day with a new dram that promises to do more than tickle the taste buds.

For the new whisky unveiled by Lidl – which has stores in Dingwall, Alness and Tain – comes complete with a 'Scotchify' playlist that showcases some of the best Scottish talent through tunes that tie in with the dram's tasting notes.

The peaty Ben Bracken 18 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been assessed "unique and thoroughly enjoyable" by leading Scottish expert Blair Bowman and inspired a playlist that finds space for everyone from Lewis Capaldi to Jesus and Mary Chain.

The "immersive drinking experience" also features Callum Beattie – who recently packed out Strathpeffer Pavilion – and Paolo Nutini, who has wowed the Loopallu festival in Ullapool amongst many other Highland appearances.

KT Tunstall, another performer who has rocked the Pavilion and also shared her healthy cooking tips with Dingwall Primary pupils, also features along with fellow Scot Amy Macdonald, a regular visitor to the town's Global Energy Stadium when her husband Richard Foster used to turn out for the Staggies.

Paolo Nutini, who has delighted Highland audiences from Loopallu to Rockness, has toe-tapper New Shoes included.

Lidl is promoting the product as "the ideal interactive gift for Christmas for less than £40".

After sampling the dram ahead of its launch, Blair Bowman, founder of World Whisky Day, said: “This is a unique and thoroughly enjoyable Islay single malt. With notes of sooty peat as opposed to the traditional medicinal peat, this is a dram that will appeal to peated whisky fans while also being accessible enough to appeal to those starting to explore the category.”

The tunes also feature other bands familiar to local audiences such as Skippinish, Travis, Peatbog Faeries, Elephant Sessions and Frightened Rabbit.

Callum Beattie, who delighted a Strathpeffer Pavilion audience last month, sees his track Bonfires included on the playlist.
