Cattle sale prices today at Dingwall and Highland Marts

DINGWALL and Highland Marts today sold 670 store cattle, five adult head of breeding cattle and 111 OTM cattle.

Bullocks (441) averaged 242.3p and sold to 287.7p per kilo for a pen of 285kg Limousin crosses from Cambusmore Estate, Dornoch and £1,300 gross twice for a pen of 583kg Aberdeen Angus crosses from South Balkeith, Tain, and for a pair of 605kg Simmental crosses from Braelangwell, Balblair.

Heifers (222) averaged 232.1p and sold to 334.4p per kilo for a 305kg British Blue cross from Shewglie Farmers, Glenurquhart and £1,600 gross for a 505kg Limousin cross from The Antlers, Occumster.

Young bulls (7) sold to 220.9p per kilo for a pair of 335kg Limousin crosses from Cambusmore Estate, and £800 gross for a pen of 371kg Aberdeen Angus from Strathglass Farms, Cannich.

Cow with calf at foot (3) sold to £1,850 gross for a Simmental cow with a male calf at foot from Bogburn, Duncanston. Bulls (2) sold to £1,600 gross for a Beef Shorthorn from Culkein, Lochinver.

OTM prime and feeding cattle (111) averaged 119.9p and sold to 178.0p per kilo for a 410g Saler cross from Altyre Estate, Forres and £1,390 gross for a 1,150kg Limousin Bull from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

It was decsribed as “a highly satisfactory trade for all classes".

Heifers up to 250kg – Strathglass Farms, £530, Pitmain Farm Kingussie, 235.0p; 251-300kg – 15 Achnairn, Lairg, £700, 248.2p; 301-350kg – Shewglie Farmers, £1,020, Pitmain Farm, 262.8p; 351-400kg – The Cloy, Fortrose, £980, Pitmain Farm, 256.2p; 401-450kg – Alterwall, Lyth £1,090, 253.5p; 451-500kg – Forsie, Thurso £1,120, 237.3p; 501-550kg – Altyre Estate, £1,125, The Antlers 316.8p; 551-600kg – South Balkeith, £1,210, 208.6p.
