A ROSS-SHIRE life-saving charity will host an event in a bid to recruit new volunteers next week.

The volunteer crew of RNLI Kessock Lifeboat are appealing to the public to join their ranks by enlisting as events crew to support their charity lifesaving role in the Moray Firth and local waters.

The crew of operational and fundraising volunteers are inviting anyone interested to to attend an evening at Kessock Lifeboat Station on June 21at 7pm.

The meeting will give attendees the chance to meet long-standing members of the fundraising branch and volunteers of the events crew from the station and hear about their experiences of volunteering for the RNLI.

Chairman of the North Kessock and Inverness branch of the RNLI Fundraisers Alison Marr, a long-standing leader of volunteers for the charity, said:“As fundraisers we are the blunt end which allows the sharp end to operate. It’s very satisfying to work so closely with the boat crew where they appreciate how we contribute to their ability to save lives.”

RNLI press officer and crewmember Yvette Kershaw added: “People are leading increasingly busy lives with work and family demands being greater than ever. If anyone is keen to get involved but doesn’t think they have the time I would urge them to consider the fantastic benefits of being part of a dynamic and worthwhile team. You only need to be able to give a few hours every now and then to help plan and run events.”

She continued: “They say there is an RNLI family and this is definitely my experience. Any new members would be welcomed aboard and I guarantee will quickly make new friends and be part of something really rewarding, and fun! There is something for everyone whether you are into physical exercise or prefer to be behind the scenes with the preparation and planning. We hold a calendar of events all year and are always looking for new ideas and areas to boost our fundraising.”

Crew member Jane Hier continued: “Volunteering for the RNLI as part of the events crew is a great way to share your skills and experiences from your day job or life in general, and what better use of these than helping to run exciting events which directly contribute to the Lifeboat Service?”

Ross Caird, another member of the boat crew, added: “Being part of the station crew is a great way to meet new people from all walks of life and make a difference at the same time. We have great craic down at the station and there is a role for everyone, and most importantly our fundraisers, without whom we would not be able to provide a lifesaving service.”
