Cairngorm Mountain has not ruled out that there could still be some skiing and snowboarding in this 2020/21 winter season.

Resort bosses have stressed that it will very much depend on the snow, weather conditions and the Covid situation come towards the end of next month.

Cairngorm Mountain Scotland Ltd chief executive Susan Smith said: "The CMSL board is carefully considering our reopening plans and at this stage we anticipate reopening the business on April 26.

"The extent to which we will have any skiing depends upon weather and conditions at the time."

Snow conditions at the resort were the best for a decade at the start of this year, and continued well into February because of the prolonged freezing spell.

The traditional lambing snows could yet bring in more snow.

Cairngorm Mountain has so far only opened this season for the weekend before Christmas just prior to the second main Covid lockdown coming into force on Boxing Day.

That was before the arrival of the heavy snow and only an artificial beginners’ slope – 140m in length – was in operation with a capacity for 100 snowsports fans.

Balfour Beatty is due to resume work on repairing the Cairngorm funicular from this Spring with the aim of the mountain railway running again for the 2021/22 winter season.
