Cadet Sergeant Andy Tait (17) and Cadet Lance Corporal Alexander Robertson (14), from 1st Battalion The Highlanders, took part in the annual Scottish Cadet Military Skills Competition, which was held recently at the Barry Buddon Training area near Dundee.

The two-day competition saw the Andy, from Dingwall, and Alexander, from Kyle of Lochalsh, make up part of the ten strong Highlander team who competed against 13 cadet outfits from units across Scotland.

The teams were put through their paces in a series of stands, ranging from obstacle courses and first aid scenarios to patrol skills and shooting.

At the end of the competition the Battalion team were placed third overall, however, the team were awarded the ‘Top Army Cadet Team’ for being the highest placed Army Cadet Force team of the competition.

The Highlanders were also successful in being named the inaugural winners of the competition’s new ‘Fallen Plates’ Shooting Competition.

Selection for the team required the cadets to attend two training weekends, which were held at Fort George near Ardersier leading up to the competition.
