Boy rescued after being swept out to sea in paddleboarding incident in Gairloch
A boy had to be rescued by onlookers after being swept out to sea on Saturday.
A helicopter was alerted but stood down by Stornoway Coastguard after it was clear the unnamed boy had been rescued in the incident.
The alarm had been raised at around 12.15pm.
Coastguard teams from Gairloch and Loch Ewe attended the scene by foot.
A message was later posted on the Facebook page of the Sands Caravan and Camping Park in Gairloch, uncredited but seemingly from one of the boy's parents.
It read: "Can not thank everyone for their help on the beach today. While getting ready to have a play my wee boy's board was washed into the sea. He walked in to rescue it, got out of his depth and got on the board where he was quickly swept out.
"Had it not been for the quick actions by one our group and others we could of had a very different outcome.
"The coast guard checked him over and thankfully he is unharmed.
"As a parent who is so strict on life jacket and water safety I am beside myself at how this happened all so quickly.
"We will be forever gratefull."
