A BODY found on the shore east of Kyle of Lochalsh has been identified as missing Wester Ross man Peter Munro, police have confirmed.

Officers launched an appeal yesterday after he went missing in the Dornie area earlier in the week.

The 41-year-old, from Achintraid near Lochcarron, was last seen on Tuesday night at around 10.30pm.

At the time of the appeal, police believed he might have attempted to hitchhike along the A87, A890 or A896 and urged the public to keep an eye out.

Searches were also stepped up to include coastguard officers, the Kintail Mountain Rescue Team, the Search and Rescue Dog Association and the coastguard helicopter.

But shortly before 3pm today, police announced that a male body had been found on the shore on Friday morning - and that he had been identified as Mr Munro.

“We can confirm that the body of a man was found on the shoreline to the east of Kyle of Lochalsh around 11.30am on Friday,” said a spokesman.

“He has been identified as Peter Munro (41), from Achintraid near Lochcarron who had previously been reported missing. His next of kin are aware.

“His body has been recovered with the aid of the Kyle of Lochalsh lifeboat.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
