POLICE searching for a hillwalker posted missing in the Western Isles confirmed this afternoon that they've found a body.

A major search and rescue operation had been launched after Edward Jackson (55) was reported missing whilst on a walking holiday in Harris.

Search efforts included assistance from HM Coastguard, Hebridean Search & Rescue and the Police Scotland Dog Section.

In a statement issued this afternoon, police confirmed a body had been found.

Next of kin have been informed.

Mr Jackson, understood to be from the Preston area, had been on a walking holiday in the area and was last seen on the Maraig to Urgha path area in North Harris.
