A WARNING has been posted on Black Isle social media about a dog attacking another pet in Munlochy Woods this week (Wed) leading to injuries needing vet treatment including stitches.

Hannah Mather said: "This is a plea to keep working together as a community to keep each other, and our dogs, safe in the areas we walk them.

"My parents cocker spaniel Fulstone was attacked by a larger dog in Munlochy woods yesterday afternoon. My mum was there with their dog on her own.

"The other dog was a collie cross (we think) and with a girl in her late teens. Both dogs were off the lead and this other dog went straight for Fulstone as soon as it saw him.

"We do not think this girl was the owner of the dog and would like to find the owners and let them know what happened so that they can take steps to help make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else. If you think you know who this might be, please contact me or my parents (William and Libby Mather in Fortrose) directly. We know the rough name of the dog."

She added that it was not immediately obvious that Fulstone had been hurt, and this may partly explain why the girl did not stop, but he was.

"He needed an emergency trip to the vets and stitches along a 5inch gash in his groin area. This has resulted in a large vets bill and a shaken up dog and owner.

"Munlochy woods was one of Fulstone’s favourite places and that this happened there makes me feel really sad on his behalf. He will get better but he was already anxious around other dogs and this will not help.

"We know these things happen but we can also all take steps to try to prevent this happening in future. If you have a dog that may become aggressive, please keep them under control and with people who know how to handle them. Thank you."
