A ROSS-SHIRE seafood firm has double reason to celebrate after picking up two top awards.

Seafood exporter FAO27 won the honours at the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards, being named Export Business of the Year and taking home the prize for Success Through Partnership. Managing director Anne Moseley was also shortlisted for Entrepreneur of the Year.

Based in Avoch on the Black Isle and France, FAO27 operates as the sales export department for a number of local small-scale seafood processors and fishing boats.

The firm sells whitefish, shellfish and farmed salmon from the North of Scotland to retailers and wholesalers across Europe as well as to large fishmongers and independent stores.

Originally set up in 2009 by MD Anne Moseley as a consultancy to help fishermen and processors export to Europe, the firm has grown to five with three members of staff based in France. As the business took off, Anne quickly realised that there was a need for a more hands-on type of role.

"We work very closely with our Scottish partners to understand the requirements of the European export markets," explained Anne.

"That way we can provide the best quality fish and shellfish exactly when and where it’s required and most importantly get the best prices for it for our fishermen and processors.

"These awards are a great achievement, not just for the FAO27 team, but for all our fishermen and processors who produce the consistently outstanding products that are in high demand across Europe."

The firm’s name, FAO27, stands for Freshness and Origin, 27 for Traceability. Instantly recognisable in the fishing world, FAO27 is the grid reference for the North Sea fishing sector.
