Black Isle ploughmen make tracks for the Far North

NORTH Kessock was well represented when two annual ploughing matches were held in Caithness.

The Latheron match was held at Banks Lodge Watten on the Saturday and the North and West Caithness event held on the Sunday at Watten Mains.

Locals gave another resounding reception for the furthest travelled competitors, Gerald Macleod with his Fordson Super Dexta tractor and Ransomes plough and John Matheson with his International B275 tractor and Ransomes plough, both having driven the 110 miles north to compete.

Mr Macleod was competing in the vintage mounted class and Mr Matheson in the vintage trailing.

Both had a fantastic weekend of competition in reasonable ploughing conditions although it was a bit spongy underneath. Mr Macleod won his class on the Saturday at Banks Lodge and Mr Matheson took the runner-up spot in his section.

On the Sunday both took reserve trophies in their vintage mounted and vintage trailing classes and were given a hearty round of applause for being terrific competitors before they set of back home down the A9 to North Kessock.
