Balintore photographer says working with youngsters is ‘most rewarding thing’ she’s ever done

A BALINTORE photographer who worked alongside local youngsters for her degree show, says it was “the most rewarding thing” she’s ever done.

Lily Skye MacDonald, from Balintore is recent graduate of Edinburgh Napier University, who took inspiration from growing up in the Highlands for her degree show project, Seaboard.

For the Seaboard project, Lily worked closely with Youth Highland, a charity that supports young people with youth work across the region. Through the medium of fashion photography, Lily aims to capture the natural beauty of the Highlands, while working with the young people who call it home.

In May, Lily exhibited the Seaboard project alongside her creative graduate peers at The Edinburgh Degree Show, with family, friends and industry professionals in attendance.

To make it even more special, the girls who modelled and helped to create the project travelled to Edinburgh to see the exhibition.

Lily said: “It was amazing to share that moment with them, and to see their reactions as they saw the photographs. This project has been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. It’s been an incredible journey to watch the girls grow over the last seven months. Seeing their confident, enthusiasm, authenticity and kindness shine through has been an absolute privilege.

One of the young models’ parent said: “Thank you for showing the girls that no matter where you are from, you can always achieve your dreams! Congratulations on a brilliant project.”
