A BLACK Isle chef is using Cinco de Mayo as a launchpad to celebrate his love of Mexican food.

The Anderson in Fortrose has been taking diners on a lockdown trip around the world on weekends with a series of themed takeaway nights.

Saturday's theme ties in with the landmark day in the Mexican calendar which is celebrated today.

The date has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture and commemorates a Mexican army victory over the French empire on May 5, 1862.

The victory of the smaller Mexican force against a larger French force was a morale boost.

Host Jim Anderson posted: "Those of you who know me are more than aware of my passión for Mexican food."

Saturday has been declared 'Taco Nite'.He said: "That's right, it's time the Black Isle twigged to takeaway tacos – it's the closest thing to street food we've seen yet!

"We're cooking up some delicious treats for you, and hope you'll excuse that we're celebrating May 5th on May 8th this year."
