FAKE £50 notes are circulating in the Highland capital, police have warned.

Officers said that a number of victims had placed items on selling sites and been handed counterfeit £50 notes in exchange.

"The serial numbers on notes should be compared against each other along with a general examination of the money prior to any goods exchanged," said a police spokesman.

"If you suspect the money to be counterfeit then advice would be not to accept it and inform the police."
