Tom Stoltman is special guest at Nairn Academy awards night

Nairn Academy pupils have seen their achievements in sport and leadership celebrated at an annual awards evening.

Three-time winner of the World’s Strongest man title,Tom Stoltman, was there to present the prizes.

Guest speaker on the night was also this year’s winner of dancing competition Strictly Inverness, Gavin Ordish-Smith — who is a former Nairn Academy sports leader – with his dance partner Michaela Newlands.

The were handed out for outstanding accomplishments in sports from school to regional and national levels, as well as tribute paid to the commitment and impact of participants in the High Life Highland Leadership Programme who have demonstrated exceptional initiative and drive in their roles.

Among the main winners were Rylan Lawrence-MacAskill (Senior Leader of the Year), Adam Mitchell (Junior Leader of the Year), Hannah Maher who won Sports Youth Leader of the Year and Sports Personality of the year Zack Paton.

Nairn Academy is where the Leadership Programme began in 2004, in the very early days of the Active Schools initiative and was eventually rolled out across the region.

Since 2022 — when electronic records started — 7,700 young people have registered to take part in the programme.

More than 1000 young people registered in this academic year alone — three people signing up per day.
