THE creative efforts of artists from around the world taking part in an international arts residency in Wester Ross will be revealed for all to see on Friday.

Ceangal=Connections, taking place at the Beinn Eighe Nature reserve in partnership with SNH, has seen artists from Poland, France, Japan, India and other parts of Scotland invited to respond to the stunning surroundings of this part of Ross-shire.

A public show is set to take place at Kinlochewe Village Hall this Friday between 3.30pm and 8pm.

This is the second such residency and is organised by artists Lynn Bennett Mackenzie from Gairloch and Somu Desai from India.

Based in the Gairloch area last year, the trailblazing project was boosted by the response of the local community and the stunning scenery.

Artwork produced then ranged from photographic works, performance art, sculpture and temporary ephemeral pieces.

The artists this year have been staying at the SNH field station by Kinlochewe and have been creating artwork around the reserve.

The first few days were taken up with excursions and familiarisation of the area, visits to archaeological sites, guided walks, a visit to the Kinlochewe strupag and a ceilidh in Gairloch.

The artists got caught in some heavy squalls and became all too familiar with midges.

As with last year, local support and the area's close community life has made an impression on the visitors.

There have been workshops in mosaic and ephemeral art and members of the public have been encouraged to meet the artists, talk about their work and get involved.

The artists work in a variety of ways and in different media.

One of the local artists taking part, Vicky Stonebridge, has created her own memorable pieces using "wee clay men".

She said: "My wee clay men will dissolve back into the landscape and are inviting people to stop and look around, and to place their own interpretations on the stories behind the figures - there has been great feedback so far!"

The other artists work across a variety of media, including sound, words and fabrics.

Some of the artists have visited the schools and done some traditional techniques.

Pat Gulliver, a retired teacher from Gairloch High School, also ran a mosaic workshop.
