Fresh appeal to public to help NHS Highland with infection prevention and control

NHS Highland is asking for the public to help reduce the spread of common winter viruses such as colds, flu, diarrhoea and vomiting.
Catherine Stokoe, NHS Highland's head of infection control, said: “We are acutely aware of the impact that diarrhoea and vomiting can have in a hospital setting, our stroke unit has just reopened following a period of closure to new admissions, and we’re also starting to see some flu cases coming in as well.
“We appreciate that when a loved one is in hospital you want to come in and see them but we are asking that if you, or anyone you live with, has symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, cold or flu please do not visit a hospital or care home setting until you are symptom free.”
She added: “Staff across NHS Highland are working very hard to reduce the risk of these spreading across our hospitals and are looking for support from the public to help with this.
“By following the advice to stay away if you have been unwell yourself and to be mindful of hand hygiene you can help us in preventing, as much as we possibly can, the spread of these viruses into hospital settings.”
