FOOTBALL fans planning watching Scotland's Euro opener today are being urged to use outside space if in groups if they can.

The appeal comes from GP Dr Ross Jaffrey who has patients in Beauly and Muir of Ord, amongst other areas.

He set up the Safe Hands, Saves Lives group to share the importance of good hand hygiene at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak and has been offering well-received updates on the situation both locally and nationally ever since.

He posted: "Be careful as cases continue to rise. Many people will be focused on the football today, wishing Scotland all the best. Remember keep venues well ventilated. Utilise outside space to watch the game, if you can."

Dr Jaffrey has been involved in the vaccination rollout locally.

Calls for caution and observing basic protective measures have been growing with the easing of restrictions and a rise in case numbers.

Dr Jaffrey yesterday noted that the central belt and cities are affected far more significantly and that local level responses may be needed.

He said then: "Hospitalisation remains low but could still creep up over the next two weeks. The delay in closing India for travel, despite the evidence, to the UK needs consideration if it blows further restrictions easing over the summer. Appreciate we may get more variants - but we knew about this one and sat on our hands once again. Two to three weeks of vaccination without cases rising so quickly may have seen the country through to the end."
