Family gather in Highlands to pay tribute to tenacious crossword and Scrabble buff
FAMILY are gathering in the Highland capital this weekend to remember a much-loved woman from Applecross.
Anna Gilroy died on August 21 at the age of 69.
She will be fondly remembered for her tenacity towards crosswords and Scrabble, and her love of flora and fauna.

Her daughters Marion, Helen and Lily would like to share their gratitude for all of the kind thoughts through this difficult time, adding: “Grannyanna will be missed.”
Anna was amongst a hard core of Ross-shire Journal readers who regularly tackle the Glenmorangie-sponsored weekly cryptic crossword.
It appears on the letters page of the print edition alongside our weekly Ross-shire through the Lens feature.
She popped in to the Highland News and Media office in Inverness last winter having travelled through on the community run bus from Applecross.
She was persuaded to pose for a quick souvenir photo with Ross-shire Journal content editor Hector Mackenzie and reporter, Iona MJ MacDonald.
Hector recalled: “It’s always a treat to be able to meet crossword crackers and quiz them on how they set about it!
“As someone who has never yet completed a single one, I need all the tips I can get! More importantly, it’s just nice to meet people who get a kick out of completing them on a weekly basis.
“And it’s nice to be able to offer a bottle of 10-year-old malt thanks to our sponsorship deal with Tain-based Glenmorangie.”
Anna’s advice was to stick with it and try to get inside the head of the compiler.
The Ross-shire Journal extends its condolences to Anna’s family.
