An Ullapool walking group are gearing up for their “ambitious” Lochbroom 12K event, with a route to showcase the spectacular Wester Ross landscape.

Gary Lewis began Ullapool Forest Runs in 2023, after realising there was a gap for such a group in the area. Since then, the group has grown arms and legs, and decided to host a dedicated 12K charity run/walk around Lochbroom this September. 28

As well as the 12K, there will also be a marquee on the day with hot food and drinks, as well as local musicians playing.

One of the organisers, Kathryn Bennett said: “The Lochbroom 12K is a much bigger and more ambitious event than what we usually do.

“The whole day is also a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support, who I know have helped a lot of people around here. I believe the impact of cancer is felt very deeply in small communities like ours, and everybody knows someone who affected by cancer.

“Ullapool is a great place for people coming together to show their support and we are pretty confident it will be a successful day.”

Starting and finishing at Clachan Church on Lochside, the route of the walk/run will also have around ten marshals at various points.

As well as this, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team will also be helping out on the day.

To register for the Lochbroom 12K, email lochbroomfundraiser@gmail.com

There is no fee to enter, but donations in cash on the day are encouraged.
