Alness woman ends period of sobriety and threatens to kill Inverness police officers outside The Highlander





An Easter Ross woman who relapsed into alcohol misuse during a family social occasion in Inverness threw the contents of a can of cider over a doorman outside a city centre pub.

Jessie Sutherland, of Munro Terrace, Alness appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting the steward at the Highlander on April 1 this year.

The court heard that police witnessed the incident but when they stepped in and handcuffed the 54-year-old, she began threatening the officers, saying: "I will murder you."

Fiscal depute Rebecca Coakley added that Sutherland then made an attempt to bite an officer as she was being restrained on their vehicle.

Sutherland also pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and police assault.

Defending, David Patterson told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "She recalls absolutely nothing about this. She has been sober for nine years and been out of trouble for a significant period. She thought she could take one drink but it led to more."

The sheriff fined Sutherland a total of £420.
