Alness’ ‘heroic’ modest bus driver praised for helping mum facing an emergency
AN ‘heroic’ Alness bus driver, who provided emergency care to a young mother, has been praised for his gallant efforts.
Last Monday (May 13), Easter Ross woman Kaya Mackenzie was on the X25 Alness to Inverness bus service when she became ill.
Kaya suffers from brittle asthma, also known as severe asthma, which is a rare and most serious form of asthma, considered a disability under the Equality Act.
Most people can manage their symptoms well with a preventer inhaler and a reliever inhaler, according to Asthma + Lung UK.
But Kaya’s inhalers failed when she was on the bus.
The Stagecoach bus driver quickly swung into action, pulling into Tore Service Station and calling 999 for emergency help.
Once Kaya was recovering in Raigmore Hospital, she began searching for the unknown driver to thank him properly, adding that “Stagecoach isn’t a bad company… they are there to help people when they need it. I’m so delighted with the fast action they gave me.”
Stagecoach has now managed to track down the everyday hero, but it turns out the good samaritan would rather remain anonymous – although the bus service company said the unsung hero was “pleased that his actions were appreciated and that the customer is recovering”.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach Highlands said: "We're proud of our bus driver for his quick and heroic response when a passenger fell ill while travelling on board the X25 bus service to Inverness. Our bus driver provided immediate emergency care and swiftly called an ambulance, ensuring the passenger received the necessary medical attention.
”Our bus drivers' actions reflect the dedication and professionalism we value in our team, showcasing true commitment to passenger safety and well-being.”
