The Place has moved into a field off the town’s River Road.

Covid restrictions meant the opening of the aptly named The Field had to be low key, but organisers were delighted that the Highlands newest MSP – and former attendee of The Place – Emma Roddick could be on hand to do the honours.

She said: “I attended The Place when I was younger so know just how much opportunity and hope its co-ordinators offer folk who need it.

“People often have low expectations of those of us who attend Alness Academy, but these young people had their centre taken away and, instead of letting it go, helped build a brand-new outdoor facility which promises incredible possibilities for learning new life skills.

“I hope it is a constant reminder of their achievement and an indication to everyone that young people in Alness are capable of anything.“

The Place is planning to run a three-day programme at Milnafua for P1-7 pupils, before moving to The Field for more play schemes and youth club activities.
