A SECTION of a mural outside a Black Isle primary school has gone missing, prompting an appeal for its safe return.

The mural was a creative collaboration between Black Isle Men’s Shed (BIMS) and pupils at Avoch Primary.

It reflects important aspects of the Black Isle village and was the result of artwork produced by pupils and then realised in mural form by members of BIMS using weather-proofed plywood.

While it has attracted appreciative comments for the past couple of years, it was only recently that the group noticed the Avoch Harbour section is missing.

BIMS' chairman Steve Bramwell said: "The lovely mural on the Men’s Shed container in the car park behind Avoch Primary School was made jointly by the Black Isle Men’s Shed and pupils at the school.

"We were all very proud of it and it marked the start of some more great joint projects like making toys and bird boxes together. Working with the children and staff has been by far the most rewarding activity at the Shed and has become a fixture for us.

"The mural has been sitting undisturbed for a couple of years and is often admired, but just yesterday we noticed that the piece of wood painted to depict the harbour has been removed.

"This follows a recent episode where one of our picnic benches was 'borrowed' to hold parties on the old railway line. We’ve decided to leave the bench there as a place for folk to stop and rest but we would really appreciate return of the missing harbour model taken from the mural.

"If anyone has any information or finds it please do let me know or return it to its rightful place so that the children can see it again as they attend the school."
