Dingwall Swimming Pool re-opening date revealed; High Life Highland and Highland Council thank customers for 'patience and understanding'
A ROSS swimming pool closed for over three months for repair work which overran is finally set to re-open.
Contractors carrying out repairs to the underside of Dingwall Swimming Pool are finalising work which will enable vital replacement ventilation to be fitted.
After closing the facility on July 29, Highland Council has announced it will re-open on Monday, November 18.
It has arranged for a specialist industrial cleaning firm to begin a “deep clean” of the pool and surrounding areas before it is re-opened.
High Life Highland and Highland Council this week issued a statement "thanking customers for their patience and understanding during this period of closure".
Work involved the replacement of ventilation ducts beneath the pool, with additional concrete repairs undertaken at the same time to enhance the swimming pool area for users.
The planned works programme was extended to allow the encapsulation/seal of adjacent asbestos to provide safe environment for the contractors carrying out the planned works.
Dingwall councillor Margaret Paterson previously acknowledged people’s unhappiness over the delay. She said: “It’s a health and safety issue. There’s no way we can open it until it is all sorted. Sadly it’s quite an old facility and is showing its age. We do apologise and will keep people updated.”
Users had earlier vented their frustration over the length of the closure and lack of information about progress on the facility’s Facebook site. One said: “Get your finger out Highland Council!”
Another wrote: “Given up on this place, it’s in tatters. I’ll be cancelling and going elsewhere.”
