A STRETCH of the A9 closed within the Highlands following a fatal collision earlier today has reopened.

Police had been called to the scene of the collision near Carrbridge between two HGVs at 4.15am today.

Sadly the driver of one of the vehicles died as a result of the collision and police have issued an appeal for dash-cam footage which may shed light on what happened.

The key Highland route was fully closed for several hours with lengthy diversions in place while police investigated the accident.

Traffic Scotland this evening confirmed that both carriageways are now open.

Diversions of 65 miles had been in place.
