Twelve new coronavirus cases detected across NHS Highland area; rise came as 951 positive tests for Covid-19 were reported across Scotland

TWELVE new Covid-19 infections have been detected in the NHS Highland area.

The region's cumulative number of cases rose from 1433 to 1445 when the latest daily update was published.

There were 951 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 last night stood at 991 ­– down 30 from the previous day.

Of those, some 68 were receiving treatment in intensive care, a drop of two since Tuesday's update.

And sadly there were 38 further deaths among people who tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new confirmed cases reported in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney and NHS Eileanan Siar, who cumulative totals all remained unchanged.

Sixty-three new positive tests were recorded in NHS Grampian, which now has an overall tally of 4864.

And there were also 63 fresh cases in NHS Tayside. Its cumulative total rose from 5915 to 5978 when today's update was published.

There have now been 96,762 confirmed Covid-19 cases across Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.
